Eating well now: Pomegranates

Eating well now: Pomegranates

Recently pomegranates have grown in popularity due to research in to their ‘superfood’ characteristics.  Best used in salads, drinks, dressings, desserts.. the possibilities are endless!  WA grown in February and March, so now is the time to buy.

Purchase fruit with a shiny smooth outer that feels heavy.  Some light imperfections on the outside are fine as that doesn’t affect the seeds on the inside.

To eat, cut the fruit in half and tap it with a spoon on the skin side to extract the seeds.  To make sure you don’t get any of the bitter white flesh, do this over slightly parted fingers so that only the seeds fall through to the bowl. Pomegranate seeds have bright red juice so beware not to stain your clothes!
